Oscar Winner Colleen Atwood Discusses Costumes for Snow White and the Huntsman

Colleen Atwood has won costume design Oscars for Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and Alice in Wonderland. The extremely talented designer spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her inspiration for the 1,000 costumes she made for Snow White and the Huntsman. Colleen says Charlize Theron, who plays the Evil Queen, has the most costumes (not to mention, the most fabulous). One of her favorites is the gold and white wedding gown. The shoulder piece was inspired by "a skeletal cage." The cage is constructed out of parchment paper that has been manipulated into an amazing architectural shape. Over the course of the film, the Queen gets darker in her outlook on life and her wardrobe reflects this. The costumes have unusual touches. One of the costumes is embellished with dung beetle shells that she found at a Thailand market. Each shell had to be individually drilled and attached to the bodice.

Kristen's wardrobe is smaller. She has a gown that someone has given her in prison, which the Huntsman cuts off short so she can run and fight. Colleen also made armor which was custom-fitted for Kristen. Take a look:
