Usain Bolt's record sprinting is boosting sales of any merchandise attached to him. The sprinter from Jamaica recently broke his own record for the 100-meter dash. He ran it in just 9.58 seconds. He also broke his own record in the 200-meter sprint. Bloomberg reports that Puma says its Bolt products have solt out.
"The products we have created for the world championships are sold out, Chief Executive Officer Jochen Zeitz said in an interview today. They include a special Jamaica collection, his spikes worn in Berlin and a lifestyle-version of the shoes minus the spikes, Zeitz said. He declined to give a sales forecast.Bolt wore shoes made by Puma during his record setting sprints. AFP reports that the shoes are also selling like crazy in Japan. It sounds like Puma needs to get cracking on getting more Usain Bolt shirts, sweats and running shoes in stores.
Europes second-largest sporting goods maker, known for its leaping-cat logo, has sponsored the Jamaican athlete since the age of 16. Puma, controlled by French retailer PPR, also sponsors the Jamaican Olympic team and the country's Olympic bobsleigh and track and field teams.
