The number of crib deaths from a Simplicity cribs defect has risen to 11. The CPSC is also aware of 25 other incidents with the cribs. The latest death was of an 8-month-old Houston child who suffocated after getting trapped in the crib after a plastic connector broke on the drop side of the crib.

There was a major recall issued by the CPSC in July. This recall included about 400,000 units of the drop side cribs. The CPSC notes in its recall notice that the Simplicity appears no longer to be conducting day to day operations. The cribs were were made in China.
