Report: Jimmy Fallon to Replace Leno on Tonight Show in Fall 2014

The word is NBC is seeking to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. NBC also wants to move the show back to New York City. The New York Times reports that NBC has not completed the deal yet with Fallon, but he is expected to take the offer.

Jimmy Fallon seems perfect for the Tonight Show. He has a great sense of humor and is hip to current events, Internet memes and pop culture. He also sings and creates fun skits involving the show's celebrity guests.

Late Night executive producer Lorne Michaels compared Fallon to Johnny Carson in an interview in GQ. Michaels said, "I'm not allowed to say it-yet. But I think there's an inevitability to it. He's the closest to Carson that I've seen of this generation."

Leno was able to orchestrate a way to stay on as Tonight Show host in 2009 - despite Conan temporarily replacing him - so we will believe Fallon is the new host when we see it. The change is supposed to happen in fall 2014, when Leno's contract expires. Take a look:
