Rolex Watch Sells for Record $1.2 Million at Christie's Auction

A Rolex watch sold for a record $1.2 million at a Christie's auction in Geneva Switzerland. NBC reports that this was the most money ever paid for a Rolex wristwatch at an auction.

The Rolex is a 1949 Oyster Perpetual model. The 18K gold watch has automatic jeweled lever movement. It features a cloisonne enamel dial depicting a whale in a frigate in sail through a stormy seas. The watch has gold stars and batons for numerals.
