Samsung is reportedly close to unveiling a Gear 360 virtual reality camera. The camera will be launch along with the Galaxy S7. It is expected to look something like the spherical Samsung Project Beyond camera pictured above.

Sam Mobile is reporting that the Gear 360 is indeed real. It uses two 180 degree fisheye lenses to record 360 degree imagery. The Gear 360 will contain its own battery and some storage capacity. It also has Bluetooth for connecting to a phone. Sam Mobile says the software package will include Gear 360 Gallery and a remote viewfinder program.

There has been a lot happening in the VR world. Samsung and Oculus launched Gear VR last fall. However, the technology has not yet gone mainstream. Devices that make it easier for users to create VR content could help the technology takeoff. Sam Mobile says the Gear 360 "could seriously lower the threshold for VR content creation." They suggest that a lot will depend on the cost of the Gear 360, which has not yet been announced.

Samsung is expected to introduce both the S7 and the Gear 360 camera at the Mobile World Congress later this month.
