Scientists Create Dishwashing Robot Called KAR

Posted on December 26, 2008

The University of Tokyo and Panasonic have created a robot called the Kitchen Assistant Robot (KAR) that can do the dishes. Reuters says there are 18 sensors attached to this robot's hand. It's able to pick up and carry dishes without breaking them or dropping them. In the clip below the robot also puts the dishes into the dishwasher.

This is just a protoype and Reuters says engineers the are working on a smaller, lighter and faster version of KAR. We've also recently seen a robot maid and robot chef. These robots that do kitchen and household chores won't be coming to your home right away but you should start seeing some pricey robotic home helpers being sold within ten years. Cheaper mass marketed versions are probably much farther out.
