Shrek Wins Weekend Box Office With Smaller Opening Than Last Two Films
Posted on May 23, 2010
Shrek Forever After had no trouble claiming the #1 spot this weekend. It made over $71 million. However, this was considerably less than the $121.6 million Shrek the Third made in 2007 and the $108 million that Shrek 2 made in 2004.
Shrek was followed by Iron Man 2, which made $22.6 million to increase its U.S. box office total passed the $250 million mark. Robin Hood finished third with a take of $18.7 million, increasing its U.S. box office total to $66 million. Robin Hood is doing very well overseas, where it has already made $125 million. Robin Hood was followed by Letters to Juliet and Just Wright. MacGruber bombed and came in sixth. It had an unexpectedly weak opening and made just $4.1 million.
