Posted on July 20, 2016
Sony has introduced its Z series line of 4K HDR Ultra HD TVs. Sony says the new televisions provide a new level with ultra-contrast and more realistic and accurate color. The TVs used Backlight Master Drive to enhance contrast.Mike Fasulo, President and COO of Sony Electronics, says in the announcement, "The Z series is a generational advance in TV technology, which brings the 4K HDR viewing experience to a whole new level. Our best and brightest HDR Ultra HD television is proof of Sony's continuing commitment to deliver the ultimate home entertainment experiences to our customers. With expertise in both the creative and the technical aspects of 4K HDR shooting, editing, recording, transmission and display, Sony understands 4K HDR like no other company. The Z series is a direct result of that unique partnership between our engineering and creative teams."
Sony says technology in its Z Series can analyze images in each scene and correct the color and contrast of each object individually. It says its object-based HDR remaster can "reproduce scenes with the detailed texture and appearance of real life." The 4K HDR Processor in the TVs also has a database for noise reduction to remove unwanted noise and up-scale every image. The TVs also use a third technology called Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR.
The Z series TVs run on Android TV using Sony's user interface. The interface includes a Content Bar for navigation as well as voice search. Sony provided details on three Z series TVs it will be offering with release dates:
