The last few years we have seen earlier and earlier Black Friday store openings that have pushed well into Thanksgiving Day. Staples is bucking the trend this year by deciding not to open its stores on Thanksgiving.

Last year Staples' stores were open on Thanksgiving Day from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This year they will be closed. The retail chain will open its doors at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. They will offer deals online on Thanksgiving Day and obviously on Black Friday. There will be deals on staples.com that run through Cyber Monday.

Staples president, North American stores and online, Demos Parneros says in a statement, "We want our customers and associates to enjoy Thanksgiving their own way. On Thanksgiving Day, customers can shop from home on Staples.com and then continue their shopping in stores starting at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. Whether our customers like the convenience of shopping online, in our stores or a combination of both, Staples will have amazing products at great prices throughout the holiday season."

There are still several weeks until Black Friday but store hour announcement should be rolling in over the next couple weeks. It will be interesting to see if the push earlier into Thanksgiving Week continues or if more bricks-and-mortar retailers decide to revert to more traditional Black Friday hours. Black Friday falls on November 27th this year - a day earlier than last year.
