Startup Creating Minority Report Style Billboards That Personally Target You

Posted on April 16, 2011

A company named Immersive Labs plans to launch digital billboards that will personally target you with ads. The billboards will display different ads depending on who is looking at them. Video cameras combined with special software will make the billboards possible. Hopefully, these personal billboards will not get as bad as they did in Minority Report, where digital mall billboards called out to Tom Cruise's character, John Anderton, as he walked by.

The company's smart billboard technology, called Wiji, is displayed in the video below. The digital billboard changes depending on whether a man or a woman is looking at it. The technology is not targeting individuals yet, but that future is probably not very far away, especially with all the information companies like Facebook have about its users. Take a look:

IDM and NEC are also working on personalized digital billboards according to an article last year from The Telegraph.
