Studios to Use CGI to Insert Paul Walker and Philip Seymour Hoffman in Films

Posted on March 23, 2014

ABC News is reporting that studios plan to to use CGI to insert Paul Walker and Philip Seymour Hoffman in films. Both actors died recently. Paul Waker was killed in a car accident in November, 2013 and Hoffman died last month from a suspected overdose. Paul Waker will reportedly live on as Brian O'Conner in the seventh Fast and Furious movie, which is expect to begin filming this spring. Hoffman plays an import role as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games series. Lionsgate says Hoffman completed his filming for Mockingjay Part 1 but they had seven days of filming still to go on Part 2.

In the past studios used body doubles when an actor died before filming was completed. Today studios have computer technology that can insert footage of actors into digital film. The technology has been used to bring back dead stars in advertising, such as when Audrey Hepburn footage was inserted in a new Dove chocolate commercial. Take a look:
