Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Reach Divorce Settlement
Posted on July 9, 2012It's official: Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise have reached a divorce settlement which resolves all issues, from custody of Suri to child support and related financial issues. Katie's attorney issued this statement: Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe issued this statement to People magazine: "The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life...We thank Tom's counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution."
Tom and Katie issued one of the most tightly worded joint statements from a divorcing couple we've ever seen: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."
The details will not be made public, but Radar Online reports that Katie will have primary physical custody of Suri and that they will live in New York City. Radar's source says that Katie refused to budge one inch on the Scientology issue: Katie insisted that Suri's nanny and bodyguards always be with Suri when she visits Tom to make sure Suri is not indoctrinated into Scientology behind her back.
Radar says everyone who works for Tom is a Scientologist, so that part of the deal was crucial for Katie. This source says Suri isn't allowed to be exposed to anything related to Scientology, including church services, meetings, parties and the like, so if this is correct there will be no Sea Org, sec checking or auditing in Suri's future. Katie is said to have given Tom generous visitation rights.
We hope that Radar's sources are accurate and that Katie has full legal control over Suri's schooling and religious education. Based on that terse joint statement, we'd say Katie has signed a confidentiality agreement in exchange for getting primary custody of Suri. We wish them the best in their new life.
