Trailer for My Week With Marilyn Starring Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh

Posted on October 6, 2011

Here is the trailer for the much anticipated film My Year With Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh and Dougray Scott. The movie is based on the nonfiction book by Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne). Clark was a 23 year old third director on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl, the disastrous film that paired Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn. Marilyn was late to the set and suffered from mental issues during the shoot. The book the film is based, The Prince, the Showgirl and Me, told the story of shoot, but it left out this crucial week. Now the story of that week is being told. Marilyn's husband Arthur Miller was away, and the young man showed Marilyn the simple pleasures of being English.

The Prince and the Showgirl was a critical flop in the U.S., although it was well-received in Europe. Olivier despised Marilyn's acting coach, Paula Strasberg, who interfered with his directions to Marilyn (he starred in and directed the film). It was a difficult shoot, from all accounts.
