Walmart ShippingPass

Walmart has started testing a 2-day unlimited shipping service on walmart.com. The service called ShoppingPass costs $49 a year. It first debuted last year and cost $50 for 3-day shipping. There is currently a waiting list to join the service.

Walmart says, "When you purchase ShippingPass you don't have to worry about minimum order requirements or shipping distance. No matter how small the order or how far it needs to go, ShippingPass provides unlimited nationwide shipping. If you need to return or exchange an item you can send it back at no cost or take it to your neighborhood store."

The service competes with Amazon.com's Prime service. Amazon has been raising the price for Prime which also includes many other features, such as access to movie and music downloads.

Prime is one reason Walmart.com had to offer the two-day shipping. Larry Chiagouris, professor of marketing at Pace University, told the E-Commerce Times, "Amazon has already trained consumers to expect to receive many goods in two days or less." Now that Walmart has reduced the delivery time to two days the service should receive increased interest from consumers.
