Duchess of Cambridge Makes Six Year Old Cancer Patient's Wish to Meet a Princess Come True

Posted on July 8, 2011

We teared up big time when we saw this touching video and learned the story behind it. Six year old Diamond Marshall has stage 4 undifferentiated sarcoma, which is usually terminal. She watched the royal wedding on tv and her greatest wish was to meet a real princess.

Diamond wrote a letter (see below) to Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. Diamond said she was named after Princess Diana, and that her own mother was in heaven with Diana (her mother died of the same cancer when Diamond was only 18 months old). With the help of the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Diamond was selected to meet the Duchess at the airport in Calgary and present her with flowers.

When little Diamond saw a real princess had come to see her, she hurled herself into Catherine's arms for a hug. Catherine didn't miss a beat, and hugged the little girl back. Diamond was a little shy of meeting Prince William, but he got on one knee to speak to her. The mayor of Calgary said that Catherine and William were extremely kind and loving with Diamond. Diamond is bald now because of her chemotherapy treatments. She is facing major abdominal surgery later this summer when she is stronger. Her cancer is a rare and devastating form of the disease.

Catherine wore wearing a yellow silk Jenny Packham dress for her arrival at the airport. Diamond told a reporter that Catherine was looked beautiful. Take a look:

Diamond's touching letter to the Duchess was full of princess stickers.
