Elf on the Shelf to Join Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as Giant Helium Balloon

Posted on June 13, 2012

The Elf on the Shelf is joining the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Elf on the Shelf giant helium ballon will make its debut at the 86th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 22, 2012.

Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, says, "Elf on the Shelf has quickly become a joyous tradition with kids and parents. With this new helium giant, we are thrilled to add a little more Elf magic to the Parade's incredible line-up of fun and whimsy that is set to kick-off the holiday season this November."

Since its debut in 2005, The Elf on the Shelf has grown into a new holiday tradition for millions of families. The Elf on the Shelf comes in a keepsake box with a watercolor board book and a special elf from the North Pole tucked inside. The book tells the story of the scout elves sent by Santa with a mission to keep watch over children during the holiday season.

The Elf on the Shelf was also back for the 2016 and 2020 parades. You can find more information about the balloon on the Macy's Parade Wiki.

Here's a cool video that shows the Elf on the Shelf crew doing the Mannequin Challenge at the parade.
