Kids Want Their Own Nemo

Posted on June 18, 2003

Every child wants to own their own Nemo, the lost clown fish in the movie, Finding Nemo. Pet stores are reporting increasing demand for the cute little fish.

However, clownfish are not gold fish. Extra care and equipment are required by families and individuals that buy them. Parents should make sure they are ready to take on the burden, as is almost always the case with pets - the parent ends up doing the work.

CNN reports that Disney released the following statement: "Owning a pet fish is a major responsibility that requires daily care and constant attention. The film Finding Nemo does not endorse purchasing fish as pets. Those who decide to have a home aquarium should be prepared for the responsibility that comes with it."

Time reports that scientists are concerned the clown fish could become endangered due to climate change.
