Padma Lakshmi Loves Her Salty Language

Posted on November 14, 2007

Padma Lakshmi has a new cookbook out called Tangy Tart Hot and Sweet: A World of Recipes for Every Day (Weinstein Books). The book includes both savory and sweet dishes. Some of them include "Keralan Crab Cakes, Fresh Green Beans with Lentils and Coconut, Krispy Fried Chicken, BBQ Korean Short Ribs, and Chocolate Amaretto Ice Cream."

The publisher says Padma's cookbook "is both a culinary and personal scrapbook of Padma's life, highlighted by dazzling photography and evocative personal stories about her lifelong connection to food and cooking."

Padma did a no-holds-barred interview with Vanity Fair magazine to promote her new cookbook. Apparently, Padma is a big fan of the f-bomb with which she liberally peppers her sentences.

  • On the Top Chef Emmy nomination: "[It] was a big f***ing deal."

  • On life after her divorce from husband Salman Rushdie: "I'm really f***ing sad."

  • On writing her new cookbook: "Finishing the f***ing book was like being in labor for two years!"

  • Talking to Harvey Weinstein about her charity event: "I'm an ambassador now for Keep a Child Alive and we're doing a campaign and an event and you should buy a f***ing table." Weinstein's smiling response: "I will buy a f***ing table."

Yikes. Why do we have the feeling that the editors had to work overtime on Top Chef to delete all of her colorful comments? Actually, we'd love to see her uncensored comments on Top Chef when Anthony Bourdain was a judge. No doubt they terrified the contestants.

Padma's cookbook is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
