All Nippon Airways Flies Star Wars Jets

Posted on August 18, 2015

All Nippon Airways (ANA) is flying three different Star Wars themed jets. The jet project launched in April 2015 with a Star Wars ANA jet. Now the company is adding an R2-D2 and BB-8 jet.

ANA signed a five-year licensing deal with Disney's Star Wars brand for the themed airplanes. The planes also display in-flight decorations. These include Star Wars themed headrest covers and napkins as well as cups featuring Star Wars characters.

Osamu Shinobe, President and CEO of ANA, says in a statement, "We're thrilled to unveil the designs of our new Star Wars themed planes, and I'm sure fans across the world will love the look. At ANA we pride ourselves on offering the best possible flight experience, from the ANA Star Wars Project and our extensive in-flight entertainment options, to our peerless, award-winning in-flight service, dining options created by Michelin-starred chefs and wines chosen by our discerning sommeliers. We look forward to providing our passengers with an engaging in-flight experience as they travel our planet."

Kathleen Kennedy, president, Lucasfilm Ltd, also weighed in. She says, "We at Lucasfilm are absolutely delighted to have found in Japan such a wonderful partner in ANA and to able to provide you with a wonderful opportunity like this one. I, too, certainly look forward to flying aboard one of ANA’s Star Wars jets on my next trip to Japan.”

They are very cool looking planes. Take a look:
