Samsung Unveils Giant 18-inch Tablet Called Galaxy View

Posted on October 28, 2015

Samsung has unveiled a giant tablet with an 18.4-inch Full HD screen. The tablet is called the Galaxy View. Bigger is the latest trend in tablets and Samsung has gone really big. The screen on Samsung's new tablet is much larger than the 12.9-inch diagonal screen on Apple's new iPad Pro.

The Galaxy View has a special handle on the top to make it easier for people to carry it from room to room. It also has a 2-way stand. Samsung says it has been designed with a video-centric interface. This is the type of device people could use to watch movies and television shows. Samsung has not released the exact specs, but they do say the tablet has high quality stereo speakers and up to 8 hours of video playback through its battery. It will run on Google's Android mobile operating system. Pricing and a release date have not yet been announced.

JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business, says in a statement, "At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience. We are very excited to introduce the new Galaxy View, providing an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment."

Here is a video of the tablet with Chris Welch from The Verge. He shows how much bigger it is than the Galaxy Note 5. Take a look:

Update: The Verge reports that the Galaxy View will cost $599 for a 32GB Wi-Fi version that will be released on November 6th.
