$1,000 Mint Juleps Served at Kentucky Derby

Posted on April 16, 2009

Woodford Reserve and Churchill Downs will be serving $1,000 mint juleps at the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs and Woodford Reserve, the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby, are offering a $1,000 Mint Julep Cup at the Kentucky Derby. The special cups honor jockeys. There are 99 cups to honor the 99 jockeys that have ridden in the Kentucky Derby since its beginning. Each 24-karat gold-plated cup is handcrafted and adorned with a medallion featuring the Woodford Reserve Stables silks.

You also get a delicious drink with the special cup. The mint julep is crafted using exotic ingredients from around the globe: sugar cane cut and crushed by hand from Sainte Marie in the Reunion Island of France; Turkish mint grown near the Euphrates River; ice made of water from an aquifer in the wilderness of Central Norway; and a small batch of the Master Distiller's personal selection of Woodford Reserve.

The $1,000 mint juleps can be purchased here. All buyers must be in attendance at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby Day, May 2, 2009, to receive the cup. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and The Robby Albarado Foundation.
