LaCie Launches Stylish Portable Hard Drive Called LaCie Mirror

Posted on January 19, 2015

There are a great many portable hard drive products on the market. Most of them are a made with a hard plastic covering and come in solid colors. LaCie has launched a stylish looking portable hard drive called the LaCie Mirror that is made with glass and sits on a wooden display stand.

The LaCie Mirror was designed in collaboration with French designer Pauline Deltour. The 1TB hard drive is encased in Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It sits in a base made from ebony wood from Makassar. The Mirror connects to your laptop or PC using a USB 3.0 connection port. The Mirror is pricier than your typical portable hard drive. It has a suggested retail price of $279.99 and can be found on lacie.com.

Deltour says in a statement, "The LaCie Mirror, propped up on its ebony wood display stand, is captivating on a desk or anywhere in the home. The intense ebony color contrasts sublimely with the LaCie Mirror’s silver facets."

LaCie launched a spherical hard drive, the LaCie Sphere, around this same time last year. The silver sphere was designed by Christofle. The company is probably wise to be launching these high-end portable hard drive products. The prices for portable storage devices have been falling over the past several years, especially for older devices. People also don't need as many of them with options like cloud storage available. The idea of having a storage device that is also pleasing to look at will win over some consumers.

Update: The drive can also be found on Amazon.com.
