Werther's gave away 1 million pieces of caramel to celebrate National Caramel Day. National Caramel Day fell on April 5th. Actress and Broadway star Megan Hilty helped Werther's with its unique promotion.

Megan served candy from a custom-made 6 ft. diameter candy bowl in the heart of Times Square. She gave out candy to New Yorkers and visitors all morning. Megan is pictured above next to the giant bowl of caramel candy. Take a look:

Werther's began with a recipe from a German candy-maker named Gustav Nebel. Nebelfirst introduced his delicious, iconic caramel recipe in 1909 in the small European village of Werther, Germany.

Megan Hilty is here showing her softer side and having a blast handing out #werthers to caramel lovers in #TimesSquare! What a sweet way to spend #NationalCaramelDay! #ShareYourWerthers @meganhilty
