Apple unveiled its new 9.7-inch iPad Pro today. The new tablet is considerably smaller than the previous 12.9-inch iPad Pro but it is still a large-sized tablet. It is the same size as the iPad Air 2. The new tablet weighs just under one pound and is 6.1 mm thin.

The new tablet uses a 64-bit A9X chip which Apple says "rivals most portable PCs." It features a new Retina display with greater brightness and less reflectivity. The display also features a Night Shift mode and True Tone display technology. Apple says the new Pro tablet gets "all-day battery life." It also features a new camera and a four-speaker audio system.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, says in the announcement, "The 9.7-inch iPad Pro has a new Retina display with True Tone technology, four-speaker audio system, blazing fast A9X chip, 12-megapixel iSight camera, 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, faster wireless, and support for Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard. It is the ultimate upgrade for existing iPad users and replacement for PC users."

The new iPad Pro features a new 12-megapixel iSight camera for shooting what Apple calls Live Photos and 4K video. It has also a 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera. The iSight camera has Focus Pixels for fast focusing, an Apple-designed image signal processor, advanced noise reduction and improved face detection.

The updated tablet works with the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard which are sold separately. Apple has also created new smart covers for the new iPad Pro.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro comes in silver, space gray, gold and a new rose gold metallic finish. Prices will start at $599 for the 32GB with Wi-Fi model and $729 for the 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. The tablet will also be available in a 128GB and 256GB capacity. It will be available to order in the U.S. starting on March 24th at Apple.com and Apple stores.
