Fisherman Kept World's Largest Pearl Under His Bed

A fisherman in the Philippines found an enormous pearl in a giant clam. He kept the huge pearl hidden under his bed for ten years. The pearl weighs 34 kilogram (75 lbs). It is 30 centimeters wide (1 foot) and 67 centimeters long (2.2 feet). The massive pearl weighs 34kg (75 lb).
The Guardian reports that the pearl was discovered after the fisherman's boat got stuck on the giant clam. He had to swim down and dislodge the clam. This is when he discovered the pearl which he kept as a good luck charm. The fisherman was reportedly unaware of its potential value.
The huge pearl could potentially be worth over a $100 million. Newsweek reports that a much smaller 14lb pearl (1/5 the size) was valued at $93 million in 2003.
Aileen Cynthia Maggay-Amurao, a local government tourism officer, posed with the huge pearl on Facebook. She tells The Guardian, "So far, based on our research…we cannot find any recorded article about this kind [of pearl] and as big as this size. He [the fisherman] said every time he goes out for fishing he will touch the pearl."
