U.S. Government to Offer Free At-Home Covid-19 Tests Starting January 19

Posted on January 14, 2022

The U.S. Government will start offering free at-home Covid-19 tests from its website, Covidtests.gov, starting on January 19th. Every home in the U.S. will be able to order four of the free tests.

The website says there will be no shipping costs and U.S. consumers will not have to provide credit card information. The tests will be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Biden administration is also requiring insurers to reimburse U.S. consumers for Covid-19 tests purchased from retailers. Insurers have to reimburse up to $12 for each test. CNN is reporting that insurers will have to pay for up to eight tests per each person covered per month.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra talks about the plan for private insurance companies to reimburse people for Covid-19 tests in the clip below. This also covers tests purchased by consumers starting on January 15th, 2022. Previously ordered tests are not covered.
