Dyson to Launch Supersonic Hair Dryer
Posted on May 16, 2016
Dyson is a British technology company known for its vacuums and fans. The company is now entering the beauty market with a new hair dryer called the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. The dryer promises strong airflow with intelligent heat control. It was also designed to be quiet.
The miniaturized motor of the Supersonic is contained in its handle. Dyson says the hair dryer contains a thirteen-blade axial flow impeller balanced inside the handle. It spins at up to 110,000 times per minute.
Dyson also says it has been "Milled to a tolerance of 15 microns." Dyson says the spinning impeller is inaudible. There is a rubber isolation mount that prevents the motor from vibrating against the inside of the handle.
Dyson founder James Dyson tells Newsweek, "Hairdryers can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket. By looking at them further we realized that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair. I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hairdryer, which we think solves these problems."
The Dyson hair dryer will retail for $399.99. It will arrive in Sephora stores in September 2016. Dyson will also sell it online at dyson.com. Take a look:
