Swoosh Recovery: Nike CEO Compares Economic Recovery to Nike Logo

Posted on June 26, 2009

Nike recently reported a 2% drop in U.S. sales for the quarter ending May 31st. Nike's fiscal fourth-quarter profit fell 30%. Reuters reports that Nike CEO Mark Parker is talking about a "swoosh recovery" - comparing the possible upcoming economic recovery with Nike's own swoosh logo.

But Chief Executive Mark Parker did talk of a "swoosh recovery," equating gradual improvement in the world economy with the upward curve of the company's logo.

"We're certainly on that longer road up to recovery," Parker said on a conference call. "But it will take awhile, let's be real."

If the stock market recovery follows Nike's swoosh logo it will be a long slow climb that eventually puts the stock market back to its 2008 peak several years from now. This type of recovery is probably more likely than the quick V-shaped recoveries we have seen in recent years.

Update: They are still talking about swoosh recoveries even today for the entire economy, in a post-Covid world that is hopefully soon to arrive. Here's more about Nike's famous logo:
