2004 Toy Fair Trends Include Gross Toys and Retro Toys

Posted on March 2, 2004

The American International Toy Fair showed that toy manufacturers are focusing on three trends: room decor, retro toys and gross toys. Room decor products like clikits, lamps, chairs and memory books help little girls decorate their rooms. The retro toy trend, which was big this holday season, includes toys like Cabbage Patch dolls, Elmo and Dream Pets. The room decor and retro toy trends are both nice, pleasant trends that completely crash with the horrid gross toy trend.

The gross toy trend is very unpleasant and we hope it ends soon. Gross toys like Stink Blasters and Snot Shot may be fun for kids but unfun for parents. Spin Master's stinky B.O. Brian Stink Blaster doll was written up in CNN/Money.

CNN/Money reports that Pressman Toy has combined the retro and gross trend by bringing back "Gooey Louie," a toy that involves kids sticking their fingers up Louie's nose to pull out "gooeys."

No thanks, we don't want to play.
