Apple has introduced the foldable iPhone called the iPhone Duo. The device combines a pocketable 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch display revealed when the phone is unfolded. The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple's new A20 Pro chip and runs a version of iOS 27 designed for the foldable format.

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and will be offered with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage. Customers can choose between star white and night sky finishes. Preorders will begin on October 16, with availability starting October 23 in the U.S.

The two Super Retina XDR displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing content to scale as the phone is opened and closed. The full unfolded display is 50 percent larger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max and has a nano-texture finish.

John Ternus, Apple's CEO, says the announcement, "iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original. With an entirely new design and intuitive experiences, it shows what’s possible when hardware and software are engineered together and redefines what it means to use a foldable phone"

The foldable design introduces Split View for using two apps side by side. New camera tools include rear-camera selfies with an outer-screen preview, Smart Take automatic photography, Duo Preview and Kid Cue animations. The camera system includes 48-megapixel main and ultra-wide cameras, an optical-quality 2x telephoto option and 4K video recording at up to 120 frames per second.

The phone also features a titanium body. The hinge was assembled from more than 100 components. The screen has Ceramic Shield protection and is IP68 water and dust resistance.

Other features include Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, Touch ID in the side button, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Apple Pencil support later this year and worldwide eSIM-only connectivity.
