Starbucks Testing a New Size for Iced Drinks: The 31-Ounce Trenta

Posted on March 3, 2010

Starbucks is testing a new drink size in Phoenix and Tampa stores that is larger than its 24-ounce Venti cup. The 31-ounce Trenta size is being offered for iced teas and iced coffees.

Reuters reports that the coffee chain is testing the size as part of its plan to battle McDonald's, which sells a 32-ounce sweet tea.

Starbucks Corp, responding to customer demand for larger cold beverages, is selling 31-ounce iced teas and iced coffees in Phoenix and Tampa as part of a limited market test, the coffee chain said on Tuesday.

The move from the world's biggest coffee chain comes as some McDonald's Corp restaurants around the United States continue to offer 32-ounce (946.4 ml) sweet tea for $1 in a bid to draw customers to stores.

Starbucks 31-ounce Trenta drinks cost $3.30 for an iced coffee and $2.60 for an iced tea. Wer are so hoping this goes national by this summer. As far as iced coffee and tea drinks go, the bigger the better.
