Google has launched a video calling app called Google Duo. Google is billing the new app as a simple 1-to-1 video calling app. It is being billed as a FaceTime competitor by tech bloggers as you can see on Techmeme.Google went for simplicity because it wants users to be able to video connect with each other. Google says video mobile calls can be frustrating. Google says in its post, "Video calling is the next best thing to being with someone in person, but too often it can be a frustrating or complicated experience."
Google Duo is a free app for both Android and iOS devices. Google says all you need is your phone number to sign up. You can begin a video call with a single tap. Google Duo reduces the resolution if bandwidth is limited to help keep the call going. It will also switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically without dropping your call. Google Duo also has a feature called Knock Knock that lets you see live video of your caller before you answer it.
